Roads in Saint Vincent are generally of a decent standard, but the quality of surfaces in more rural areas cannot be relied upon. The same goes for the Grenadines – essentially, the more touristy the area, the higher quality the roads. Bus services cover all the islands and offer cheap, reliable transport between towns, though they tend to be cramped and uncomfortable. A number of minibus/pickup truck passenger services also operate through the islands and can be an interesting way of getting around. Taxis operate in main towns and can provide more comfortable shared transport than public buses – fares are set by the government. A number of short-haul flights are offered and services are frequent between the islands. Flights can prove costly though, and are only really recommended for those with little time and lots of cash. It is very easy to charter ships to sail between the islands, both privately or sea taxis. This is a fantastic method for travelling around the islands, being affordable, comfortable and offering some spectacular sights.
